Welcome to Ocean City

Ocean City, Maryland and the Kite Loft welcome you to come and fly on the beautiful beaches along our famous boardwalk!

Event registration opens at 5:00pm on Friday, April 24 in Shenanigan’s Irish Pub, located at 4th Street and the Boardwalk. Registration will remain open until 7:00pm. Join us for the fun!

A reminder to all Kitefliers – everyone must register and sign the waiver to participate in the festival. This is imperative in protecting the AKA insurance policy. If you miss registration on Friday, registration continues on Saturday at 800am at the Division Street tent.

On Saturday night, join us for our annual banquet for Kitefliers and their families beginning at 7:00pm. The menu will feature various items and costs only $25 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under. You are responsible for your own drinks. Please pre-purchase the buffet with this registration! Our auction follows at 8:00pm and is open to the public. Remember, the auction supports this festival so please support the auction – credit cards will be accepted! Donations are welcome and appreciated and may be shipped in advance or hand delivered at registration. If donating, please let us know no later than Sunday, April 20 via email to mikedallmer@comcast.net and include the following information: your name, manufacturer; name of item(s) being donated; approximate retail value; and whether you will be shipping the item(s) or hand delivering them. If shipping, kindly ship to arrive no later than Tuesday, April 21 to MIKE/MASKC Auction, C/O Mike Dallmer, 7204 Oakley Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Mid Atlantic Stunt Kite Championships

On Saturday morning the 20th Annual Mid Atlantic Stunt Kite Championships (MASKC) begins competition at 8:15am. The Eastern League and the American Kitefliers Association sanction the Mid Atlantic Stunt Kite Championships. You may join the Eastern League by contacting the league at commissioner@easternleague.net or 804 347 6241, or joining at the event. You can also contact the AKA at www.aka.kite.org or call 800 252 2550.

The Head Judge for this years MASKC competition will be Maggie Engvall.

MASKC and MIKE Kite Maker Awards will be presented on the field following competitions on each day.

Kids and Kites

A childrens sled kite making workshop will be held on Saturday and Sunday at 10:00am at the 3^rd Street tent. Volunteers are needed! There will also be kite flying lessons in front of the Kite Loft offered by various manufacturers throughout the day.

M.I.K.E. Kite Makers Competition

The Maryland Comprehensive Kite Makers Competition is returning! Awards will be presented to winners in the following categories: Delta & Derivatives, Flat Kites, Bowed Kites, Cellular & Dimensional, Unclassified Flying Objects, Soft and Flexible, Sky Display (Line Art), Stunt Kites, Fighter Kites, Trains & Centipedes and Arches & ribbons. Individual and cooperative entries will be judged together. Competitors may enter more than one kite, but only one per category. The overall top scoring entry will be awarded the title of Maryland Grand Champion Stunt. Please note, any kite that has placed previously in an AKA Nationals competition may not be entered. Kites may not be entered by proxy. The schedule is subject to change and it is the responsibility of the competitor to check in at the tent and verify the schedule. All winners will be announced at the 3^rd Street tent once all competitions and scoring have been completed. A Winner’s Showcase will follow. Steve Ferrel is the Head Judge.
